A CPA since 1981, Kate has unique experience in international tax, initially in Japan.  Almost immediately after getting her CPA license she moved to Osaka, Japan, where she was the only American CPA with Asahi Kaikeisha, Japan’s largest audit corporation (then affiliated with Arthur Young).   Moving back to the United States in 1985, she continued to interact with the Japanese business community; becoming president, then chair, of the Japan Society of San Diego and Tijuana, and while continuing her membership in the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan.  She has worked with other international organizations, including organizing and participating in Trade Missions to Japan with the World Trade Center San Diego, serving as chair of CalCPA’s Global Opportunities Committee from 1997-2000 and its international conference co-chair in 2008 and 2009,  and, in 1995, founding (and frequently chairing) the US-Mexico Annual Joint CPA Conference.  In 2006 the conference emphasized the trilateral US-Mexico-Japan relationship and the new US-Japan Tax Treaty.

Kate focuses her practice on providing international tax services to a client base spanning six continents.  She also serves as consulting tax director to Quantum Design, Inc., a California based corporation with operations in Asia, Europe, India and South America.   Kate’s previous affiliations include Hamilton Accountancy Corporation, Asahi Kaikeisha, Price Waterhouse, and Intel.  She has been active in the CPA community as a council member of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) since 2003, serving from 2006-2007 as secretary/treasurer of the CalCPA, and serving on the editorial staff of the AICPA Tax Practice Guides.  In addition to instructing Tax Boot Camp since 2008, she designed and instructed a nine-week International Tax Course in 2009.  She was named San Diego’s Women Who Mean Business (Accounting) in 2000.

In her free time, Kate plays flute in a community band and volunteers in music therapy.  She lives in Del Mar with her family.
